This map from the
12th Annual Report of the Bureau of
Ethnology shows a small portion of the
mounds and earthworks along the Kanawha River at the present location
of Charleston. None of the earthworks were preserved, but one of the
few mounds that is still visible was within the rectangualr enclosure
in the above map.

This
mound originally had a large rectangular earthwork surround ing it
that encompassed 20 acres but has long bee n obliterated .
